Business coaching

As a coach I will help you to understand what is happening to you, your colleagues and organisation and to refocus. I won’t give you the answers, but I will help you find them for yourself. And as you find the answers so you will develop and improve your independent thinking.

If you are a manager, I will provide you with practical support to manage your complex agenda. I do this by helping you focus on the things you can influence and change. I will act as an independent sounding board for you to think through strategy, direction, values and how to influence.

When you are going through a career transition, coaching can really make a difference. I will provide focus, practical support, new ideas, networks, reduce the time to generate and execute a plan and most importantly ensure that you have thought through the options and that your choice will be a good fit.

Coaching is also a good way to accelerate your personal development. Being independent of your company I can bring objectivity, a wider perspective, other networks and help you focus on you and to identify what it is you want and what you need to secure success.

In your professional life, some of the most challenging circumstances for you may come when you, your team and your company is working through company restructures, mergers, acquisitions, or demergers. Coaching really comes to the fore in these circumstances. I will provide you with focus, objectivity, a place to share those ideas, fears or worries and to replace them with a structure for success.

What I bring to your coaching

In addition to my non-directive coaching approach, I bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, and networks from a long and varied executive and non-executive career across many sectors.

I understand the challenges of identifying and retaining clarity of purpose, working with stakeholders, delivering, and navigating business politics. The current environment requires you to adapt rapidly to survive. The effect on you may often be profound. Volatility uncertainty and complexity all play a part. These combined with lack of space to think, a need for rapid decision making, against a background of personal career transition can all take their toll.

In many instances the effect of working in survival mode has an impact 12, or 18 months later and I help you to recognise, head off or prepare for this possibility.

As a non-executive director, I continue to be in the thick of business life and can bring what I see and learn today to support you. I understand and recognise challenges, constraints, and opportunities when you may be unable.

Mentoring

Whilst mentoring may be more directive than coaching, I apply the same principles: you have the solution and require encouragement, empathy, and quality listening without interruption to move forward.

You may find mentoring helpful when you are required to manage change or complexity. I offer a skilled and experienced perspective which will enable you to cut through this challenge.

Mentoring is also useful if you have been promoted rapidly and you may feel you would like an additional experienced input from outside the company.

It may be that you are benefiting from organisational development programmes where the conventional managerial relationship is not quite enough to promote consistent learning for you. My mentoring provides additional support, a wider perspective and access to a wider network.

If you feel you are underrepresented at senior level, such as women in financial services, you may find mentoring a useful approach to help you make your voice, and the voices of others like you, heard in the Boardroom.

Mentoring - focusing on yourself

Life coaching

I can help you when you are facing challenges such as managing stress, getting a work life balance, building self-esteem and confidence. Or you may be at a stage of life transition, such as considering returning to work, moving to part time work, embarking on a new career, or seeking to retire. Whatever challenge you are facing, I help unpick the issue, provide practical support, and refresh your thinking so you achieve clarity, you develop and commit to a way forward.
